Subaru Vehicles Win at the 2024 IIHS Awards: What Frederick, MD, Drivers Need to Know

Subaru Ascent

Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hands out its annual awards. These awards go to the vehicles that earn the organization's highest marks in comprehensive safety tests. At Frederick Subaru, we are excited to announce that multiple Subaru vehicles earned recognition at the 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) Awards.

Subaru Ascent Wins Top Safety Pick+

The Top Safety Pick+ is the highest honor handed out by the IIHS. This year, the Subaru Ascent earned the honor. It is the seventh consecutive year that the Ascent has earned TSP recognition, continuing a streak that has helped the Ascent gain a reputation as one of the safest sedans for families in Ijamsville. Subaru has earned more IIHS TSP+ awards than any other brand since 2013.

Subaru Models Win Top Safety Pick Awards

The Ascent was not the only Subaru model to earn IIHS recognition. The Impreza, Outback, and Solterra all earned Top Safety Pick awards, in a year when the IIHS introduced more stringent standards for vehicles hoping to earn its coveted hardware. The Impreza has earned TSP honors for 17 consecutive years, while the Outback has done so for 16. The Solterra has earned TSP awards in each of the two years since its launch.

Why IIHS Awards Matter

If you want a safe vehicle, shopping for models recognized by the IIHS is a great idea. The IIHS conducts rigorous crash tests to determine how effective cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans protect passengers in a collision. For the 2024 awards, the IIHS introduced stricter requirements, with additional tests to emphasize back seat safety.

5 Reasons Why the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is the Perfect Car for the New Year

We all love our New Year’s resolutions. Work out more. Keep in touch with loved ones. You know the drill. But some of us have set our sites far and wide, vowing to go on more road trips and enhance our travel experiences. If you fall into this category and long for outdoor adventures, or even a simpler daily commute, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness shouldn’t be overlooked. This impressive SUV comes packed with adventure-ready features, blending everyday practicality with off-road capabilities. In short, it’s a great fit for Frederick motorists who want to enjoy weekday commutes and weekend excursions. Trail-Ready Performance & Off-Road Capability We know there are plenty of SUVs that boast similar rugged features, so what sets this one apart from the rest of the pack? While light offroading is an expected capability among many models like this, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is able to handle terrain most of its “colleagues” cannot. Hitting the less favorable terrain in one of the many parks in the area? This vehicle can handle whatever is thrown its way. Performance highlights include: Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive 9.3 inches of ground clearance All-terrain tires for impressive grip Dual-function X-MODE for more control on varying terrain And speaking of X-MODE, you can really notice the difference it makes in snow, slush, mud, and gravel. While other drivers may panic in these situations, rest easy knowing you can navigate the same conditions with ease. Powerful and Versatile Engine With Towing Capacity There’s plenty to the “secret sauce” that makes the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness the powerhouse that it is, but a major contributor is the powertrain. It’s designed to support spirited driving and weekend hauls alike. The 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine boasts over 180 horsepower, giving you strong acceleration and climbing power. And then there’s the towing capacity; it can pull approximately 3,500 pounds. To put that into perspective, that’s enough strength for: Small trailers Kayaks and canoes Dirt bikes and ATVs Compact campers If you frequent the various waterways that make the state such an exciting place for outdoor enthusiasts, this vehicle is the perfect fit for you. And don’t worry; it’s not a gas guzzler. Just think of the possibilities for excursions to the Potomac! Comfortable & Adventure-Ready Interior Features But we know it’s not all about horsepower and towing capacity. Equally important is your comfort while driving it, and we’re excited to talk about those features as well! Subaru has designed the Wilderness with materials that stand up to dirt and temperature changes without feeling bare. You can expect features like: Water-resistant upholstery, to account for muddy boots and rainsoaked jackets A heated steering wheel and seats for the frigidity of Maryland winters Easy-fold rear seating to allow for plenty of cargo space Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ that let you jam out A large, responsive touchscreen display We know we have at least a few skiing enthusiast customers who enjoy a trip to Whitetail or ten every winter, so these features will make your excursions all the better. Subaru Safety Features You Expect… and Then Some Safety is an important feature of any vehicle, no matter what it’s designed for. And once again, Subaru have outdone themselves with this one. The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness features EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which actively supports you in various situations (yes, even on the intimidating I-270). This suite of impressive Subaru safety features includes: Adaptive cruise control Pre-collision braking Lane-departure prevention Lane-keep assist Vehicle proximity alerts These safety features—in combination with Subaru’s track record for reliability—mean your commutes and road trips alike can be enjoyed with minimum risk to your safety. A Lifestyle Vehicle for Every Season To say Maryland weather keeps things interesting may be an understatement. You could argue it’s possible to experience all four seasons in a single day … yet another reason to give the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness a serious shake. Thanks to high ground clearance and all-wheel drive capabilities, it can take on the challenge of the ever-evolving whims of Mother Nature without a second thought. A sampling of seasonal capabilities: Winter ski trips and icy commutes Spring hiking season, muddy trails and all Summer road trips to Ocean City and other coastal escapes Fall camping trips or picturesque drives through Catoctin Mountain A Great Trek Awaits If you want to enjoy versatility, capability, and comfort wrapped into one great package, the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is waiting for you to drive it off the lot (or even take it for a test drive, if you’re still on the fence). With a durable interior, everyday drivability, and safety-conscious features, it boasts an impressive balance of lifestyle and practicality. Did we mention you get all this without needing to sacrifice comfort or efficiency? What’s not to love? Ready to experience it for yourself?
