Christmas Sweaters for Charity - Pat B.
On December 24th 2025, employees at Frederick Subaru got the opportunity to wear their favorite Christmas sweater for the day. Those that participated made a donation to be able to wear their Christmas sweater. The retailer then matched the total donations. Overall we were able to raise just a little over $400. This donation is being given to the local chapter of Wreaths across America. Each year during the holiday, the local cemetery, Mt Olivet, where Francis Scott Key is buried, lays wreaths at the grave sights of veterans. Thank you to all those that participated.
FCAC Microchip Clinic - Bethany D.
On October 25th, we partnered with our local Subaru retailer and the ASPCA to host a free community microchip clinic—and while only three community members attended, the day turned into an unexpected win for everyone involved. Five pets received free, permanent identification, helping keep more families together. But the best surprise came from the adoptable animals we brought along. Dealership staff and community members were able to spend quality time with them, giving the animals a much-needed break from the shelter environment. In the process, we learned even more about their personalities—who loves meeting new people, who melts for belly rubs, and who thinks a showroom makes the perfect stage for showing off their best manners. The Subaru team enjoyed a welcome pause in their workday, complete with tail wags, kisses, and plenty of reasons to smile. And our adoptable pets went home with richer bios, refreshed spirits, and the extra exposure every shelter pet deserves. It may have been a small clinic, but it was big in impact—strengthening community connections, enriching the lives of adoptable animals, and keeping pets safe through microchipping. A true happy tail.

Frederick Subaru Teams Up to Support Local Community - Nate R.
Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in Frederick, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Frederick Subaru is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. Through this partnership and other Subaru Loves to Help® efforts, Subaru and retailers like Frederick Subaru have helped nearly 900,000 children and adults in urgent need. On 01/27/2025, Frederick Subaru donated 120 shoes/socks to Advocates for Homeless Families. Frederick Subaru Loves the Earth - And Proves It By Investing In Local Green Spaces - Kathy F.
The Friends of Baker Park is an all volunteer nonprofit organization that partners with the City of Frederick to maintain and enhance the 53 acre green space adjacent to the historic downtown. Baker Park is a nexus of community activity, housing within its boundaries 2 playgrounds, a bandshell for musical and theatrical performances, a swimming pool, a carillon that chimes every fifteen minutes, tennis courts, bocce courts, public gardens and fountains, a gazebo often used for photo shoots, a covered bridge, a small boat house, a large lake and creek used for fishing and bird-watching, an in-ground relief map of the Monocacy Watershed, and various interpretive signs explaining various aspects of the park environment. In addition, throughout the entire length of the park, there runs a shared use path that connects downtown Frederick with the neighborhoods west of the park. It is this shared use path that will benefit from the generous donation from Frederick Subaru. There is a long stretch of pathway and green space that needs to be improved and enhanced. The Friends of Baker Park will use the funds from Subaru to plant trees and install historic benches along the path. We will landscape to create quiet areas for contemplation and connection. Scientific research shows that access to nature reduces stress, provides emotional balance, and promotes mental health. Baker Park is an extremely well-used and well-loved amenity for Frederick's residents and visitors. Subaru's support illustrates and proves its deep commitment to community. We are very grateful!
Subaru Loves to Help - Melissa C.
Subaru and its retailers are committed to providing comfort, hope, and confidence to children and families in urgent need. This commitment continues through our partnership with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that children in disadvantaged situations receive the essentials needed to thrive. During Subaru Loves to Help, we focus our efforts on local homeless shelters and support agencies, providing children with brand-new coats, shoes, and socks. These items are more than just necessities; they represent hope and the opportunity for children to engage fully in their education and social activities without the burden of worrying about basic comforts. Frederick Subaru's Sales Manager Pat and BDC Manager Melissa dropped off several boxes to our local community at Advocates For the Homeless Inc. Here is what the Director Ken Allread wrote to us. "Thank you to Frederick Subaru for the homeless children in our program. Subaru loves to help is an amazing program that benefits the families we house and support! You're the best and a pleasure to work with!"
Local Microchip Clinic Plays Tiny Role in Helping Maryland Man Achieve Olympic Dreams - Bethany D.
"I called to ask if we could bring a litter of Golden Retrievers for microchipping and they answered, 'Absolutely!'" A radio ad promoting a free microchip clinic through Frederick County Animal Control at Frederick Subaru prompted Lisa Tucker's call. Within the hour ten adorable puppies arrived at the dealership for the Subaru Loves Pets event. "When we arrived an entire team of people went into action," Tucker continued, "helping me with paperwork, microchipping our puppies, and of course giving them lots of attention." The Tuckers wanted to get these puppies chipped because they recognize it is part of being a responsible pet owner. "Microchipping helps to ensure the safety and well-being of our pets," she stated. While making sure that these dogs are able to be reunited with their owners may have been the number one reason for attending the clinic the fact that it was free saved the family some money that they could instead put toward their son Nicholas' goal of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Nicholas Tucker is training on the US Bobsled Skeleton Team. "His rigorous schedule does not allow him to have a job in addition to training and competing. There is no financial assistance other than donations from family, friends, community and local and national businesses," his mother explained. "As he competes on the US National team, he is financially responsible for all of his own travel, lodging, and even competition fees. The proceeds from these puppies will be helping to support Nick as he works towards his Olympic dream." You can follow Nicholas Tucker's Olympic journey on Instagram at @nickfrombaltimore.

Volunteering at the Frederick Rescue Mission: A Journey of Compassion- Melissa C - Melissa C.
The Frederick Rescue Mission, located in the heart of downtown Frederick, Maryland, had been serving the community for over 50 years. Its mission was simple yet powerful: to provide food, shelter, and recovery services for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and poverty. Nealy, Matt, Melissa and her daughter Emma volunteered that day to serve lunch in the dining hall to 102 people in need. It was such a wonderful feeling! Frederick Subaru plans to volunteer every year around Christmas. Frederick Rescue Mission wasn’t just about volunteering to us; it was about connection, understanding, and the reminder that even in the face of hardship, there is always hope.
Casual for Charity - Pat B.
At Frederick Subaru we get comfortable for different charities. Every first Friday of each month employees are encouraged to dress comfortable for a cause. With a small donation employees dress in comfortable attire to support the charity that is chosen for the event. This year Frederick Subaru employees have donated a little over $2500 for the year. This is an ongoing event that has been taking place for the past few years and will continue in the future. The charities range from programs that support pets, mental health, veterans, and homelessness. Thank you to everyone for your support!
Subaru Supports BRES Again! - Kevin W.
Once again this year Butterfly Ridge had the pleasure of working with Frederick Subaru through the Adopt a Classroom program. In a world where prices are higher and funding is scarce, Subaru's support was well timed and much needed. BRES prides itself on being able to always provide our students with school supplies. Often times this effort ensures that the students have what is needed to start the school year in terms of the basics. Having community members like Subaru and Adopt a Classroom allows us to empower our teachers to make their classrooms even better. The support of Subaru this year allowed our teachers to do the extra. To fund items that make their classroom more engaging and gets the most out of our students. Success in our building isn't simply the work of our teachers and staff, it's the community, specifically organizations like Subaru making sure our teacher's lives are easier and they have everything they need to teach. Success at BRES is a community effort and BRES is so thankful to have community members, friends, and partners like those at Subaru.

These comforting gifts were accompanied by personalized messages of hope written by customers and staff at Frederick Subaru. This incredible act of generosity was warmly received by the folks at the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute at Frederick Health Cancer Center. Thank you to everyone at Frederick Subaru and James M. Stockman Cancer Institute at Frederick Health Cancer Center for supporting LLS’ mission!
Operation Warm Meets Advocates for Homeless Families of Frederick - Ken A.
We would like to express our gratitude to Subaru of Frederick for again stepping up to help our families. Most recently through their program “Operation Warm” they provided 108 winter coats for the families and their 99 children we are currently helping and supporting. This particular family is new to our program and are so grateful for the generosity of the Frederick community and Subaru of Frederick specifically for providing warm clothes for their 2 yr old son.
Frederick Subaru helps animals affected by Hurricane Ian - Pat B.
My name is Pat Blackwood, sales manager with Frederick Subaru. I watched on TV and social media just like everyone else the total devastation that Hurricane Ian caused back on September 28th of 2022. It was something that from a distance you could tell it was bad. The people that were trying to survive, homes ripped apart, businesses destroyed, and just complete devastation to an area. For the next few days, after the hurricane moved on, the coverage from multiple media outlets just showed how bad it was. I saw the local residence of Fort Myers walking and just stunned by the destruction of their homes and town. I then saw a dog walking aimlessly through the debris that’s when it hit me. There must be a way we could help. Subaru Loves pet was beginning on October 1st and I decided to create a donation drive to help animals and their owners in the Fort Myers area. I started to search for local animal rescues in that area and started making phone calls. I contacted a group that was able to provide information on the needs of supplies. Throughout the first few weeks of October, we reached out to the public in our area to assist in donations. During that time, we received supplies from our local community. Once the collection time was done, we were able to send to the Fort Myers area over a 1000lbs of pet supplies! Thank you to everyone that donated, we couldn’t have helped with out you.
Small Things, Have BIG Impacts! - Kevin W.
Butterfly Ridge Elementary School is such a wonderful place! We are blessed to serve the community that we do. We have over 40 different countries represented in our building and multiple languages are spoken throughout our school. Our diversity is are biggest strength and something we are very proud of. We are not only diverse in where our families come from but we are also diverse in how our families live. Nearly 70% of our students receive Free and Reduced Meals. This mean nearly 70% of our students live near or below the poverty line. The beginning of each school year can be a challenge in our building. Trying ensure paperwork is complete, classrooms are ready, and family needs are met are our top priorities. One of the family needs we try to address regularly are school supplies. We know that many of our families struggle financially and putting the burden of a school supply list on them can make it very difficult at the start of the year. We try our best each year to remove that stress and that burden so that families can have a positive feeling starting the school year and know that we care about them. This has been difficult over the years as funding can always be tricking in public schools. This past school year though was something different. This year was the easiest year we've ever had with school supplies. We weren't short supplies, we weren't looking for supplies months into the year, we were ready early and learning in our building was moving fast sooner because of the help of Subaru! Subaru put us over the top and ensured that BRES would not struggle with supplies. Instead of having to spend time looking for more, Subaru has allowed us to do what we want to do, focus on students and their learning. BRES can't thank Subaru enough for their support. Not having the stress, the burden, or the time commitment that school supplies can sometimes take has allowed us to take off this year at a rate we have never been able to start at. Students picked up right where they left off last year and haven't looked back. It's because of partners like Subaru that BRES is able to grow from a 3 Star School to a 4 Start School. When partners in the community join in the efforts of a school, the only outcome is a positive impact on students. We thank Frederick Subaru for all their help and are blessed for their time and commitment to our community.
Christmas Cash 4 Kids - ASHLEY K.
Frederick Subaru is all about giving back whenever they can, and the employees of Frederick Subaru demonstrate this every month for their casual for a cause tradition. The employees of Frederick Subaru pick a cause monthly to donate to collectively as a group and Frederick Subaru matches all employee contributions. For the month of December, the employees of Frederick Subaru chose Christmas Cash for Kids which has been a tradition in Frederick County since 1975. The tradition started after an announcer working at the WZYQ radio station received a call from one of its listeners in 1975. The caller was very concerned about a family in Frederick that would not have any Christmas. The disc jockey went right into action raising $1,500 to provide Christmas for a few families that year. The disc jockey then proceeded to deliver the gifts as “Santa”. On that Christmas Eve in 1975 he drove down a dirt road towards a wooden shack just north of Frederick. Upon his arrival he found a mother and her three children living behind the wooden shack in a shanty. When Santa knocked on the door a little girl opened the door with pure joy announcing, “My mommy said you would be too busy, but I knew you would come!” This ongoing holiday tradition is made possible by the help of Frederick’s local radio disc jockeys at WFMD and many other businesses such as Frederick Subaru. This program has become the largest single provider of children’s toys and clothing for those who would otherwise do without. This year Frederick Subaru was able to present a check for $500 on behalf of their employees for Christmas Cash for Kids.
Serving Others at the Frederick Rescue Mission - Hanna D.
Frederick Subaru paired up with the Frederick Rescue Mission to help spread holiday joy by serving others. Roberto, Janie, Hanna, Candy, and Melissa volunteered to serve meals in the Dinning Hall. The Frederick Rescue Mission provides hot meals daily, distributes groceries and personal items, as well as provides recovery programs. Yesterday we served a warm meal to over 90 men, women, and children. We would like to thank the Frederick Rescue Mission for their long time support to the greater Frederick community. The Frederick Subaru team looks forward to returning soon!
Helping those who can't help themselves - Tyler B.
The month of October is "Subaru Loves Pets" month. Here at Frederick Subaru we partner with our local animal shelter "Frederick County Animal Control" in order to assist them with as many pet adoptions as possible. Throughout the month, we made sure to set up a large display in our showroom that not only advertised the program itself, but also showcased a few of the local dogs that were available for adoption at the shelter. On top of donating the new pet owner kits, we made the commitment to donate $100 to the shelter for every animal adopted within the month of October (up to $3,100). With the help of Frederick Subaru, 91 different animals were adopted last month, which totaled a dealership contribution of $3,100. To help increase the number of pets adopted we met with the head of animal control, Bethany, and put together a special video featuring Evan, our favorite adoptable dog. During our multiple visits to the shelter we emphasized the impact donations make: Food/water for the animals, toys that they can play with in order to keep up morale while looking for their "forever home". It was such a beautiful thing being able to sit in with the animals up for adoption, understand the circumstances that led them to where they currently are, and hearing what was being done in order to provide a better life for those who can't help themselves. Needless to say, every worker and volunteer at the shelter was driven by a love for what they do, and a passion for creating better lives for each and every animal. Each animal had a personalized profile that was created for them by Bethany that showcased their personalities as well as a little backstory, and a suggested home environment that would best suit them. With the help of Frederick Subaru and Frederick County Animal Control & Adoption Center, we were able to create a better life for 91 animals, a second chance at love and companionship for 91 families, and $3,100 worth of assistance towards the future of an institution built on Love. Love is what makes Subaru, Subaru, and love is what changed the lives of those special 91.
Evan Loves Toys - Bethany D.
During October Frederick Subaru selected three dogs from Frederick County Animal Control to promote in their showroom: Riggs, Blue and Evan. Riggs and Blue with their unique breeds and young ages quickly found adoptive families. Evan, however, as a 5-6 year old pit bull mix wasn't as lucky. But don't feel too bad for Evan. As the remaining dog being promoted by Subaru he got to do one of his favorite things destroy, I mean, play with the toys in Subaru's puppy bags. Sporting his fast and furry bandana, Evan headed out to our play yard to test out how fun and durable the car dealers promotional toys were. While the toys didn't really hold up to his heavy chewer style, the long time shelter resident had a blast playing and getting to interact with Frederick Subaru staff as they took photos and videos for their social media. Though the extra promotion didn't lead to a new home for Evan, it did show a wider audience how wonderful he and shelter dogs in general are and let Frederick County residents where to go the next time their looking to add a fast and furry friend to their households.
From a Battery Replacement to Exemplary Customer Service - Hanna D.
After having trouble starting her Subaru, Lois decided she would run her car over to Frederick Subaru to get it looked at. Her Son-in-law jump started her Subaru Forrester and she drove straight to Frederick Subaru. By the time Lois arrived, the doors were shut, and the service department was closed for the evening. Luckily one service advisor, Jim Smithhisler was still there and noticed Lois in the service drive, he immediately stepped in to help. Lois offered to come back in the morning, but Jim insisted they could take care of it now. Jim phoned Ray Storms, a technician, who had stayed late that evening trying to finish a different vehicle repair. Ray dropped everything and agreed to take a look at Lois’ car. He found that the existing battery had corroded and wasn’t holding adequate voltage. Ray replaced the battery and returned the vehicle back to Lois. Lois was so delighted by the service at Frederick Subaru, that she reached out to the Owner Jim Warfield to share her experience. She wrote, “I can’t tell how much this helped me. Since I moved here and had the Subaru car, I have only used your dealership for my car. I have always found the people here helpful and courteous. Subaru should be delighted to have a dealership like yours that lives up to the customer service promise. Jim (Smithhisler) is the epitome of an excellent Customer Service Advisor”. Lois’ story shows how empathy and customer commitment on behalf of Jim and Ray truly transform a customer’s experience from ordinary to exemplary customer service.
Partners Help Spread the Word about Adoptable Dogs - Bethany D.
In October of 2022, FCAC had 25 adoptable dogs in our facility many more than what is statistically normal for the organization. Despite a marketing promotion that drastically reduced adoption fees, adopters weren't applying. Dogs of a variety of ages and breeds were available, but interest was very limited. Since the efforts of the facility alone to promote didn't seem to be reaching a wide enough audience, FCAC reached out to area partners and fellow government agencies for help. One such partner was the local Subaru dealership. The dealership agreed to help promote the adoptable dogs both on their social media and by hanging flyers in the showroom. While the dog population is still relatively high, thanks to the efforts of all of these partners spreading the word about FCAC's adoptables, many of the canine residents from that promotion are now spending the holidays in forever homes.
Murphy's Law is my life! - Kristina H.
After a string of unfortunate events, we purchased a 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe. Things were great for a few years, but when it was time for maintenance all hell broke loose. After five months of my car being at the shop because they could not get replacement parts for this vehicle anymore, and recall after recall making them discontinue the engine and parts: it all pushed us to make the choice to trade in the vehicle. I reached out to the dealership and Hyundai, only to be rejected for any kind of help, so I headed to the one place that I knew would give me a quality car and never leave me out in the cold. Once my Crosstrek was in, we headed to the dealership. My Hyundai's engine died half a mile from the dealership. I called the dealership and they were gracious enough to tow the car to the dealership. That's when things took a turn. They were able to get my car started but the sounds that came from the engine were actually terrifying! As you can imagine, I was hysterical. Not only did I not have a trade in, I also still owed 13K on the car. I assumed they would send me on my way and I was on the way to financial ruin. What came next was one of the biggest blessings I have ever received! The staff at Subaru went to work! Not only did they find a way to get me money for my trade in they also worked in a 100,000/6 year warranty so this wouldn't happen to us again. They also added GAP insurance because well Murphy's Law! I cannot say enough amazing things about Frederick Motor Company in Frederick, MD! In fact, the next day I sent one of my clients there and she purchased a Ford Bronco from them (no Subarus on the lot). 20 years ago, I got my first Subaru. It made it through 350,000 miles, two kids, 1 stick shift and several stereo systems! We even had the seat belts replaced! I knew I made the right choice when I ordered the new car BUT the staff at FMC made all the difference! I love my Crosstrek and have no desire to drive anything else!
My love is with Subaru and Frederick Subaru! - Oksana K.
I had never owned a Subaru. Two years ago, I had decided to try it. I purchased a Forester Touring and I loved it! Most importantly, I found the best dealership in Frederick, MD. Though it is quite a commute for me from Gaithersburg, MD. I did not mind it as I knew that this is the place where I am going to be heard and respected. The entire staff has outstanding customer service skills! They are also very knowledgeable. At that dealership you will not experience anything even remotely close to what you usually have to deal with at other dealerships. It is a pleasure to do business with them. They treat you like royalty. Back in April of this year my son and I were involved in a serious car accident that was not my fault. Thank G-d that I had a dash camera recording to prove it. That Subaru literally saved our lives! The driver that caused the accident cut right in front of us at the last moment while we were traveling at the speed limit (which was 70 mph) on a NC highway. I have a clean driving record, and many times I have been able to avoid accidents. This time however there is no way I could have avoided that one. It was impossible travelling at the speed of 70 mph to avoid an impact. The other driver had decided to change lanes right in front of us with no opportunity for me or the Forester to react. Five seconds after the impact the Subaru SOS system started calling us on its own and asking where we are and how we are doing. They also asked us who we would like to have arrive on the scene. In five minutes, an ambulance, a fire truck, and the police had arrived. The SOS service that Subaru offers is a treasure. That Subaru literally saved our lives! I knew after this experience, I would not even look at any other brands, but Subaru. When I got home to MD, I reached out to Frederick Subaru again. Due to all the supply issues that are occurring in the auto industry, I was told that I would have to wait until September for a new Forester. The sales manager, Patrick Blackwood, went out of his ways to find the car for me sooner. I am a single mother and widow with a very long commute to work. My son is a college student who also commutes, so we need two cars. As a result, my new car was delivered to Frederick Subaru in the middle of June. When I had arrived to pick up my new Forester, I was greeted with balloons, open doors, open arms, smiles, kindness, treats and as before, outstanding customer service. Though this time I worked with a different sales consultant they did not disappoint. Grant Schley (sales consultant) was just as knowledgeable as the person who was helping me two years ago (he since retired). Then Tyler Biser, the technology assistant, was very patient while spending time with us explaining all the features of my new Forester. What a team! Bless their hearts and thank you to Subaru again for saving my only child’s life! Go Subaru!
Thank You - Heather W.
Thank you to Frederick Subaru for supporting the Phoenix Foundation of Maryland for the Subaru Share the Love Event. Phoenix Foundation of Maryland received a $17,712.69 donation which allowed us to provide instructional materials and technology for students who attend Maryland’s only approved recovery high school, Phoenix Recovery Academy. We meet the individual educational needs of teens recovering from substance use disorder with care, compassion, respect, and rigor. Thank you Frederick Subaru, we couldn’t do what we do without you!
Community Partnerships Help Support Under...Cats - bethany d.
Not all underdogs are dogs. In fact, at Frederick County Animal Control the majority of our underdogs are actually cats as they make up sixty percent of our animal population. Baby is one of our "undercats." The eight-year-old cat arrived after her elderly owner moved into a nursing home. While she enjoyed attention from staff and volunteers, Baby struggled as she missed her owner and the comforts of home. For the first couple of days, the senior cat barely ate and refused use the litterbox. Staff tried various things, but ultimately they had find a way to reach out to the previous owner. That conversation provided valuable information on what types of litter and food Baby was used to in her former home. Once that Tidy Cat litter that Baby was used to was poured into her litter box, she immediately went to the bathroom for the first time in days. When she was given the canned wet food that she liked, she quickly began eating. These are all great successes, however, all of the items that Baby preferred and needed were not items FCAC purchases routinely. As an agency on a budget the financial assistance provided by its community partners like Subaru, allows FCAC to purchase items necessary to keep the shelter residents like Baby healthy and happy. Frederick County Animal Control is happy to report that a family adopted Baby in November of 2021.
Did Frederick Subaru go above and beyond, provide exceptional service, or support causes that are important to you? We'd love to hear about it.
